Most of us are stuck in our landscapes, addicted to Big Dopamine, and unable to appreciate ecosystems. We are like Mr. Square, the resident of Flatland (from the famous little book by Edwin Abbott). Unable to look above or below his landscape, which was as flat as a piece of paper, Mr. Square could not see a three-dimensional sphere that happened to be passing through it. All he could see, from inside his paper-thin world, was the line of the circle\u2019s circumference, first growing larger and then growing smaller, as it passed through Flatland.<\/p>\n

Without focusing on qualia instead of matter we shall never move beyond our material landscapes to appreciate qualiadelic ecosystems. We shall never discover that the pleasures of Little Dopamine are far more exquisite than what our addictive economic system has to offer. We shall never reach the epiphany that ecosystems are as different from the landscapes that they inform as the mind is from the brain.<\/p>\n
