But, as new landmarks and pathways impressed themselves upon our ancestors, the old ones didn\u2019t go away, they moved into the background.<\/p>\n<p>The qualia of the past may no longer hold our interest, but it remains within us, perhaps in genetic or cultural memory, waiting to speak to us again if need be.
