The human landscape keeps us off center – poor health, addictive behaviors, hypocritical ideals, to name a few of the ways we are out of balance.<\/p>\n
Imagine how, walking up to the center of a seesaw, after we finally gain our balance up there, we can to look around a little bit. We can notice things \u2013 gifts. We might notice, for instance, that we are in balance, for which we would be grateful.<\/p>\n
Yes, we did balance ourselves ourselves, simple body mechanics \u2013 except that we were helped by millions of years of evolution – thank you!<\/p>\n
Perhaps we would prefer to acknowledge the Weber-Fechner law, which explains why, when we are at the center, we are aware of the tiniest changes in weight, while when we are completely at one end, it takes a great weight to move us. Thank you, physics!<\/p>\n
Perhaps we just want to be grateful for the tree that gave us the wood in the seesaw, or the forest that gave us the tree. Thank you, ecosystems!<\/p>\n
Perhaps we would just prefer to thank God.<\/p>\n
Yet, thank you evolution, thank you physics, thank you ecosystems, for the gift of even being able to conceive of God, in whom we can place our faith. The point is that we tend to thank whatever, or whoever, is most often in our thoughts.<\/p>\n
No matter who we thank, it is actually the act of noticing the gifts in the first place that matters. Once we start paying attention, the gifts start to appear often. We can begin to find the balance. We notice the little things when we can look beyond ourselves, and we can connect them to something greater than ourselves.<\/p>\n
Hence, with every gift, our faith is ever increasing, that God and ecosystems will provide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
