Just as we hear that indigenous youth around the world often venture alone into the wilderness to await a vision, so too, do Gen Z kids seek self-defining experiences in the wilderness (of virtual landscapes, gender exploration, new causes or new faiths). And they will find meaning there, too.<\/p>\n
We were all young once. The problem is that we \u201cwise up\u201d and return home from our quest, ready to take our place back in the fold, a good, law-abiding, church-going, citizens.<\/p>\n
When we look back at our youthful adventures, we are likely amazed that we even survived those days. We are likely to recall our idealistic youthful pursuits as powered by high Interest and Participation levels<\/a>.<\/p>\n But this is not accurate.<\/p>\n The youthful seekers on their vision quests, and even the Gen Z gamers, are well-enough aware of the precariousness of their situation. They may only be going into a virtual landscape online, but their Interest and Participation levels are likely more balanced<\/em>.<\/p>\n Youth is always highly attuned for the appearance of new qualia. We all had our own, unique qualia quests – perhaps we expected it to come from the natural landscape, or perhaps from the human landscape. It does not matter which: from these experiences we found the qualia that defined us, that gave us a name for our inner self, and it became who we are.<\/p>\n And then we settled down into the human landscape. And then we settled back into our material lives.
