I used to have conversations with a dear friend, a musician, about where music was going to go next. Music has its crazes, but we haven’t seen anything as overwhelming the rock and roll which Elvis unleashed, or the jazz that Louis Armstrong unleashed, in a long time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We guessed it might be some new form of classical music, or some completely synthesized electronic sound, but everything we heard was only some hybrid of other musics, even world musics, and their effects upon the world seemed, in our eyes, rather tame. It was as if music had lost its purity, somehow; all music was somehow infected with ideas, and was falling further away from the ideal. It was no longer flowing to us – or through us – but was being sold to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I thought, well, maybe poetry will come back and be the rage again. Before there was Elvis there was Lord Byron…but even though there is more poetry than ever being written and published on the web, it hasn\u2019t yet risen to the heroic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, we need something heroic. We need something quite outside of the familiar. Our savior will take us outside of the human landscape. What we need is some Elvis of the ecosystem, some qualiadelic Satchmo, to set the world on fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
