Like stars moving apart from one another in the universe, the extension of consciousness creates more emptiness, more void, more space into which the harmony of the ecosystem may flow. The ecosystem expresses itself through us, through our expanded inner landscapes, informing the matters we care about, helping them endure, and giving them life. Such gifts as we are chosen to send out into the world are more valuable than anything we can own.

Our awareness of ecosystems does what prayer does for those who believe in God: it makes us a center, through which a greater power takes form. Once we become aware that we are a part of something truly beneficent, our wishes tend to be in harmony with it. What is good for the ecosystem is good for us. Thus, the ecosystem expresses itself through us, becoming, at one and the same time, both our wish and the realization of our wish.
