The landmarks we follow make an imprint upon the landscape. The imprint is our pathway, and it is necessary to reflect upon that pathway occasionally. Our landmarks and pathways are often inherited from previous generations, from cultural traditions, and even from our genetics. Our pathways, imprinted upon the landscape, change the landscape.

We are pretty smart when it comes to landscapes, but none of us has all the landscape intelligence we need – perhaps it is time to start noticing different landmarks. Indeed, sometimes we realize that even our best skills are misplaced – perhaps our pathways do not match up with our values. We sense there is something more to life, something deeper. Maybe we ought to be following a different pathway, and noticing different landmarks.
