Standing, balanced, on a seesaw, we can see beyond. It is like playing a musical duet with another, there is a moment of perfect time and pitch when, playing the same note or melody, you can’t hear the other’s notes – or perhaps it is your own that you don’t hear – but they disappear and the two of you are one.
Compassion arises just like that. All beings suffer uniquely, but we can share their qualia, their sense of the burden, the pain they and we perceive, and something disappears.
