All sensitivity bears the stamp of mentation — Susanne K. Langer (1895 – 1985)

Our eyes, our ears, our fingertips detect qualia. Every cell and every organ detects qualia and moves accordingly. Our very genes turn on and off because they sense qualia in the environment around them. Even the random moves of subatomic particles bear the stamp of mentation, detecting qualia, moving toward it, and forming around it.

These are the events of life, of existence, “self-caused” by even so-called “dead” matter.
