We are very selective in what we notice. Ask yourself some questions about the landscapes you live in, such as your house, your work, your recreations. What landmarks and pathways do you notice and use? Do you follow them carelessly, as most of us do when we drive the same route to work every day? Or, carefully, as we do when things are tense at home or at work? Do you notice new landmarks often? Do you dare to venture down new pathways?
The word qualia can always be substituted for the terms landmarks and pathways. Landmarks and pathways are just collections of qualia projected to our senses, like a tree, for our mind to interpret. A tree may first strike us as a sign but when it takes on more significance it becomes a symbol or a concept.
Landmarks and pathways are everywhere. There are landmarks and pathways outside of us, there are landmarks and pathways in our bodies, and in our brains. There are also landmarks and pathways in our minds.
