Here’s a novel definition of God. Being God allows you to murder, manipulate, maim, and bully without a conscience, all in the name of some grand plan. So it is that do-gooders and scientists and everybody who wants to make the world a better place is playing at God.
But animals, plants, and, of course, people are suffering because of it.
Perhaps we can reformulate this definition of God based on just finding contentment within ourselves. When taken one individual at a time, our unique perception of the world can be the most beautiful thing. We can visualize a world we are happy to be in, but we ought not feel the need to hoist our vision on anybody else.
In ecosystems all beings have their niche, living in a symbiotic balance with the other beings. That is, seriously, contentment. Of course, things will change from day to day, season to season. Then we ritual, looking for new qualia.
Qualia is the gift from ecosystems that keeps us content by helping us discover a new spot, a new niche, when things fall apart. We humans seem to have lost our niche, lost our contentment, and lost our faith in the divinity of ecosystems.
Okay, back to the god thing. We live like kings. We act like gods. The solution is ancient. We must surrender our power and wander off into ecosystems just like the kings of the ancient Tao.
