We are something apart from our bodies and brains

Most of us only pay attention to what our bodies have to say when they start yelling at us. We only notice that we have an infection when we feel sick; we only notice that we must be still when we feel pain. But the body is speaking to us always. 95% of the brain listens to the body all the time, a conversation which goes on beneath our radar.

The body influences us just as surely as the landscape influences animals. The body is a landscape. As our ancestors had a participation mystique with their environment, so we have a mystical participation with our body. Our brain, too, is an outer landscape.

Our bodies and our brains, in and of themselves, are without inner consciousness. No organ has inner consciousness, any more than a rock or a tree, or most animals, have inner consciousness. The consciousness of all these comes from the landscape outside of them, just as the consciousness of an atom comes from the quantum landscape which surrounds it.

But the mind, and its symbol using capacity, its ability to conceptualize, makes a whole of the body and all its organs. The human self is so because it is inner consciousness. The self, who we are, is separate from the body, and the brain. These are not identical, the inner landscape and the outer landscape, the inner consciousness and the outer consciousness.

We are something apart from our bodies and brains. Be qualiadelic. Be conscious. Change the World.
